Tansu: Sword chests
Katana-dansu were the repositories of blades and fittings of the long and short swords of the samurai. Similar chests were also used by sword polishers.Kiri wood with wiped lacquer was most common, though occasional chests of keyaki and unfinished kiri are seen.

A sword storage chest of kiri(paulownia)with locking bar.This is a fine older tansu in original condition with hand made iron details. The lower locking bar or bo was used to secure multiple drawers before individual lock plates were common.
