A very fine example of a ship's strong box or safe. These stout chests were status objects of sea faring businessmen. and truly embody the talents of craftsmen working with wood and iron. This example in the cho bako or "merchant box" style is made of keyaki with thick iron hardware.The drop fit door at bottom secures multiple drawers which further secure additional kiri wood boxes.
